Enhancing Language Assessment Literacy of Pre-service English Teachers: Insights from a Pilot Study in Hong Kong

Dr. Liubov Darzhinova recently gave paper presentations at the International Hybrid Conference on Diversity and Inclusivity in English Language Education (DIELE) at Soka University, Tokyo, Japan in May 2024 and the Global Research Institute for Finnish Education Conference (GRIFE) 2024 at the Education University of Hong Kong, China in June 2024. Her DIELE presentation focused on enhancing pre-service English teacher training—a vital area of our department’s mission. This paper is part of a series of her scholarly work funded by Hong Kong’s RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme (formerly known as RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme).

In the GRIFE paper, Dr. Darzhinova explored how youth in Russia’s regions with rich Buddhist heritage navigate their identities within broader societal changes. This paper is part of the cross-institutional project (PI: Professor Valeriy Badmaev, Kalmyk State University, Russia) funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. She also participated in the GRIFE World Café workshop, discussing challenges and best practices of education in the digital age with other scholars and educators from Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China, and Finland.

These conference contributions have a shared focus on understanding the challenges faced by university students and present localized knowledge from Hong Kong and Russia. Both papers bring important implications for research, educational policies and practices within the scope of teacher education and tertiary education as a whole.
